Ranthambore is a city and Municipal Corporation (Nagar Parisad) in Sawai Madhopur District, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is the administrative headquarters of the district.It is home to the Ranthambore National Park and the historic Ranthambore Fort a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which lies within the national park.This area was ruled by Raja Hammir Dev ( a Rajput king ) of Chauhan lineage along with his Bargujar relatives. The area was destroyed by Allaudin Khiljee.

In 1984, the adjacent forests were declared the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary, and in 1991 the tiger reserve was enlarged to include Sawai Man Singh and Keladevi sanctuariesStanding out remarkably in an extensive denuded tract, the Ranthambhore National Park reflects a unique juxtaposition of historical and natural richness.
